Snowpop is a hypothetical ice cream brand specially made for kids, keeping in mind their nutritional needs. It is low in calorie and made from natural sugar and low permissible preservatives.

What makes snowpop stand out is its reusability and how the brand promotes the same in a fun way. Ice cream packaging is usually seen as ‘use and throw’, my challenge therefore, was to introduce a secondary usage for the packaging to the consumer. I came up with the idea of using ice cream cups as building blocks and turning them into a collectible play set for kids. The packaging is also capable of being used as stacked lunch boxes, becoming a truly ‘value for money’ deal while also encouraging sustainable practices.

Snowpop aims to spread awareness and inculcate the right values from a young age. The packaging itself shares facts about the environment in a fun way through the brand’s mascot - Popo the penguin, your child’s play pal. In this way, Snowpop spreads awareness and through the product, inculcates habits of reusing products from an early age.

Brand Development

I wanted to express two things through the brand name, the fact that it is an ice cream brand and it’s USP, playability.

‘Snow’ represented both and ‘Pop’, stood for the sound of explosive joy and happiness that the brand spreads.

For a kid’s brand, the decision of choosing a mascot came naturally and backed with research that said that kids who associate with a brand via a mascot show more brand loyalty even 20 years later.

For the mascot, I wanted to pick an endagered species to spread awareness and since with snowpop, you can build your own igloo, I picked a play pal who lives in the cold. Thereby introducing the official mascot of Snowpop - Popo the penguin.

For the logo, I stacked ‘snow’ and ‘pop’ on top of each other as building blocks and added Popo right under as if chilling in his little igloo. After many explorations, I smartly replaced the ‘o’ in ‘pop’ with Popo.

Packaging

For the packaging I made several mock ups until I got what I was looking for. The right size and shape helped me translate my idea into a die line to which I later added surface graphics.

The front displayed the brand logo, brand tagline and flavour along with important information about the product including calories and net weight.

The back had Nutrition facts and recycling information along with knowledge about the product being vegetarian.

The bottom of the box had grooves cut out for interlocking of another box beneath. The top was inspired by ice cream swirls.

The remaining sides displayed Popo enjoying the ice cream denoting the flavour and ingredient of the ice cream and fun facts about penguins.

I'd love to hear your feedback.
